Forrest Griffin is
the original Ultimate Fighter, Forrest won season 1 of the TV show.
To win the show he defeated fellow fighter and house mate
Stephan Bonnar in what has turned out to be one of the biggest fights
in the history of mixed martial arts. In a 3 round battle that left both
fighters bruised and bloody, Forrest won a unanimous decision that awarded
him a nice 6 figure contract from the UFC.
Forrest Griffin was
trained in
mixed martial arts in Georgia under brothers Adam and Rory Singer at
HardCore
Gym as well as being part of the law enforcement in
Athens Georgia. He was ready to quit MMA and go back to law enforcement
before UFC President Dana White talked him into being on The Ultimate
Fighter. Even though winning the contract from the UFC was his big break,
Griffin had quite a few pro mma fights before that. His first MMA
fight was against the Legendary Dan Severn. Forrest Griffin has faced
notable names like Chael Sonnen, Jeremy Horn and Jeff Monson. Since
winning his
contract,
Forrest has made the most of the opportunity. At first, it was
a struggle for him. He won back to back fights after the Bonnar breakthrough
but his next one was by far his toughest test. Tito
Ortiz is one of
the
faces
of MMA.
He was a former UFC champion and defeated Forrest Griffin
via unanimous decision. After a few wins and a loss following Tito,
Forrest
faced the highly touted PRIDE superstar Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
in what was supposed to be a fight to introduce "Shogun" to
the US fans. Griffin stopped Shogun in that fight with a 3rd round
submission.
Defeating Shogun
propelled Forrest into the title picture. He was to face off against
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
Before the 2 faced off they were coaches on The Ultimate Fighter Season
7. They
are very popular fighters and there sense of humor made the season a
big hit. During the show though they had a run in after one of the fights.
Rampage told Forrest that he'd bet his purse that there fight wouldn't
go to decision
as he stormed out of the gym. Forrest was obviously upset and took out
his anger on a door splitting it in half. The 2 fought for the title
in july of 08 and Forrest won the title by unanimous decision. Forrest Griffin Profile:
