Pt 1 or Pt
2 of Franky's report.
The last three fights on this card were unreal!
The atmosphere for
the event changed when Josh Barnett and Pedro Rizzo started. Barnett
looked great, but I don’t want to see another
spinning back kick from him ever again. Also, why does Pedro Rizzo
always look sad? I was slightly disappointed when the baby face assassin
never shot in, but was thrilled when he finished the fight with a beautiful
knockout. I really want to see Barnett facing Sylvia, Arlovski, or
even Fedor in the near future.
The Pitbull is back!
I don’t know what it was, but something came
back alive in Arlovski. The only thing that I can think of is that it
had to be the Leonidas beard and the hairy chest. Arlovski proved that
his chin wasn’t made of glass by eating some good punches from
Rothwell then dishing them right back. I have to give it to Rothwell,
he ate many punches and knees from the Pitbull before going down. I hate
when fighters are booed. I understand that the crowd was behind Arlovski,
but Rothwell is not a heel. He is a respected fighter and should be treated
as such. Good to see Arlovski back, but is Fedor going to be too much
for him come October?
Okay, Fedor has now
fought real competition. His destruction of Tim Sylvia was the most
unreal thing I have seen in the sport. When Fedor came
out, everyone was on their feet. Once the fight started, I wanted everyone
to sit down because I was thinking “I don’t want to stand
here for 25 minutes.” I thought there was no way this fight was
going to end any other way than decision. Well, no one sat down the
whole fight. All 36 seconds of it. I still get pumped thinking about
it. Fedor is the real deal.
The press fight conference
was, unfortunately, ran like the rest of the event and was kind of
chaotic. One fighter came out at a time and there
were big gaps of time between each fighter. There really wasn’t
much to note here. Every fighter just answered a few questions. Nothing
controversial was said, but it was fun to be that close to all the
fighters.
Overall, the event
was awesome even with production issues. My concern for Affliction
is the amount of money that they put into the event.
Once that is figured out, Affliction can really be a heavyweight contender
to the UFC. With Arlovski fighting Fedor at the next event, you can
count on me being a true Affliction fan.
My big question is
who is the #1 fighter in the world now? Fedor destroyed Tim Sylvia
in 36 seconds. Anderson Silva ripped apart James Irvin in
