Tim Sylvia
Tim Sylvia is a monster. At 6’8’’ and 265
lbs, he’s one of the biggest fighters in MMA. He is the
current UFC Heavyweight Title Holder. The "Maine-iac" trains in
Iowa with Pat Miletich, Sylvia uses his size advantage better
than any other fighter in the world. He has effectively
worked on his boxing and grappling style to become a very
difficult opponent to attack.
After his professional debut he went on
to pound out 13 straight victories, including 10 knockouts. Like
a lot of heavyweights, Sylvia relies on power and strength to
wear down his opponents. He is usually fighting with a big
advantage in height, reach, and weight. He’s
surprisingly quick and has a terrific defense against takedown
attacks. His outstanding defense allows him to control the
action on his terms, as the fight goes longer Sylvia seems to
dominate the action with his size, strength and skill.
Sylvia is strongest on his feet and
packs a powerful punch, but he is also effective on the ground
and defends well against ground fighters. The “Maine-iac”
is 24-2-0 and has been fighting since 2001. Fighters need to
watch out for his big right hand. His arm is now complete with
titanium plates after it was fractured in multiple places in a
fight with Frank Mir.
Sylvia is best known for his battles
with Andrei Arlovski, who he's 2-1 against. He can be
considered a playable favorite in most situations.
Strengths: Takedown defense,
strong standup, mentally strong, dedicated.
Weakness: Can be stunned in early
action.
